New ORCsy Rating System off to a Promising Start in the BVI and St Barths

The new ORCsy rating rule which will be used this year at the Superyacht Cup in Palma proved extremely promising during the first two regattas in the Caribbean last month, providing competitors with some of the closest and most exhilarating superyacht racing to date.

"The ORC collaborating with the Superyacht Racing Association (SYRA) is already evaluating the race results and reviewing the feedback provided by the event organisers and yacht representatives," said SYRA Executive Peter Craig. "Based on lessons learned in Virgin Gorda and St Barths, the VPP will change and rule policy will be adjusted before the next regatta. We knew from the outset that this would be a challenging undertaking, but are really pleased with the rule´s debut. There is no question that full transparency is the key to success for the ORCsy"

P2 at The Superyacht Cup Palma 2013

The impressive entry list for Palma has continued to grow with the addition of P2 and Visione since their respective wins at the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht regatta and the St Barths Bucket.  "The three of us, Visione (45m Reichel Pugh/Baltic Yachts), Inoui (33m Briand/Vitters Shipyard and P2, Briand/Perini Navi 38m) have been neck-and-neck at the finish each race and I can say we are all sailing very well, so the handicap is clearly working. There are a few outliers that need some help and fixing but the heart of it is working. These boats are so complex that it does take a couple of years to get them to their top performance. I´d say we are pretty good at sailing our boat around the track and getting every ounce of speed out of it" explained P2´s helmsman Peter Holmberg after their win in Virgin Gorda. Clearly the three highly competitive yachts will continue their close racing in Palma in June. Visione, P2 and Inoui have all participated at the Superyacht Cup in previous years but not all in the same year so the competition is going to be as tight as ever.
